Dear residents,
As valued members of the Seekoei Estuary Forum, we are pleased to update you on our recent meeting with the engineers from the Kouga Municipality. The purpose was to address three critical infrastructure issues that require urgent attention to ensure the well-being of our estuary.
Firstly, let’s discuss the challenges related to the Rising Main pump station on Dolphin Road, Aston Bay. The main issue occurs when the Cormorant Street pump station reaches a high level and the Dolphin Road Rising Main pump starts operating. This causes a clash at the 55 Cormorant street manhole, resulting in sewage overflow into the pond opposite the Aston Bay Caravan Park, and then gets pumped into the estuary. We have explored potential solutions for this problem.
Furthermore, we highlighted the concerns surrounding the pump station located on Swan Drive, near the Seekoei River mouth. Similar to the Rising Main pump station issue, this facility has experienced failures, resulting in the release of sewage into the estuary.
Additionally, we discussed the matter of the subsoil drains on Swan Drive, which have not been properly fixed during the recent tar resurfacing. This oversight may have potential consequences for the infrastructure and properties in the area. It is important to inform the contractors about the potential impact and ensure proper measures are taken to rectify the situation.
We express our gratitude to Kobus Mulder for his diligent investigations and efforts in identifying these problem areas. His contributions have been instrumental in bringing these infrastructure issues to our attention and working towards their resolution.
Moreover, we extend our appreciation to Councillor Sakkie and the Kouga Municipality for their willingness to listen to our concerns and collaborate with us in addressing these issues.
Warm regards,
Seekoei Estuary Forum Committee
